VICTORIA SCHOOL AND SPECIALIST ARTS COLLEGE

Prior to the project the existing building was restrictive, lacked a coherent order and offered insufficient teaching, care, and support accommodation for students and staff. The scheme involved the extensive refurbishment and extension to provide fit for purpose accommodation for students with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) and complex needs aged 19+.
The proposed design involved the significant remodelling of the original layout, removing the central hall and clutter of surrounding small rooms and relocating the large teaching and living skills spaces to the perimeter of the building. A centrally accessed area houses hygiene and sanitary accommodation to provide care for the medical and health needs of the students. The result is a building that provides legible circulation, maximises natural daylight, and allows direct access to external spaces. Project undertaken whilst working at Acivico Ltd.
